ASTM Biofilm Scour & Calculated Flush Time

Determine exact internal pipe geometry, Reynolds flow regime, biofilm wall shear velocity, and volumetric purge turnover per ASTM B88 & ASHRAE Standard 514.

ASTM Hydrodynamic Biofilm Scour & Dead Leg Purge Calculator

ASTM B88 / ASHRAE 514

Calculates exact internal pipe geometry, hydrodynamic flow velocity, Reynolds number, and turbulent biofilm scouring flush volumes (3x / 5x / 10x) to eliminate water stagnation.

ASHRAE 514 Scour Principle: Laminar flow (Re < 2000) fails to generate sufficient wall shear stress to detach microbial biofilms. In laminar regimes, a 10x pipe volume flush is required to displace stagnant water. For turbulent flow (v ≥ 2.0 ft/s and Re ≥ 4000), a 3x volume displacement achieves complete hydrodynamic scour.
